The US military is assembling off the coast of Gaza loaded with construction equipment’s for a controversial project that threatens the possibility of displacing Palestinians.

Israeli Defense Minister, Gallant, commented after visiting the site, saying, “We came to take a closer look at the infrastructure preparations in anticipation of launching the maritime dock.”

In a previous statement, President Biden stated that “Establishing a temporary dock will significantly increase the amount of humanitarian aid reaching Gaza daily, and Israel must play its role.”

An American plan, approved by Israel and welcomed by the European Union, aims to establish a maritime dock connecting the port of Cyprus to the shores of Gaza to facilitate the entry of 200 aid trucks daily after inspection by the occupying army before allowing them to cross. This floating bridge will take two months to build.

Security experts have described Biden’s plan as “deceptive,” and from a human rights perspective, it is seen as “a ridiculous and blackly humorous project,” according to Middle East Eye.

Observers believe that the project could lead to the displacement of Palestinians and the abolition of the Rafah border crossing with Egypt to tighten the occupation’s control over all Gaza crossings.

The idea of establishing the port is not new; Israel’s former extremist foreign minister, Katz, sought to implement it ten years ago.

The American-Israeli project appears humanitarian on the surface, but behind the scenes, it may serve the interests of both parties.
